the week's impossible thing is quiet: hold one note past the last train and let the block fall asleep before the note ends. tick appears at step four and burns the expiry into the lamppost — lapsing 04:20 . — the note holds, the train passes, the block goes down, and the stamp lapses on schedule. by morning gice billing has found the lapse in its feed and renewed the impossible thing as a subscription, twelve months, consent pre-accepted on his behalf. the renewal dialog waits at the base of the lamppost for an acceptance that never comes. billing marks it "pending ." and moves on to the next item.

the city runs a pet census and gice wins the contract: scanner vans up and down the blocks, every animal gets a tile and a tile number. cardboard scans as one (1) dog and the deep narrator certifies the readout. the van reaches the corner at 4:00 and sweeps the rooftop, and the readout returns "no asset found," which the manifest reads as equipment failure, so they schedule a second pass, then a case, then a subcommittee on the empty field. dolly is asleep in the water tank's shadow the whole time, whiskers flat. at dawn the case closes itself — subject not present — and she comes home on her own, unmarked, to the same sill, and the frame returns with one thing added.
