a labor audit lands on the corner: thirty years of work performed, zero records. no employer of record, no timesheets, no w-2, and under district law attendance must be established from evidence. the corner authentication board convenes on the curb and reads attendance the only way it knows: the walls. sticker over sticker over sticker, sun-fade in layers, each layer one winter — the strata read like tree rings and the count comes back attendance : perfect . the gice auditor cross-checks payroll, confirms there is none, and closes the file status : work performed . liability : none ., because a position nobody can name cannot be underpaid. tick burns one timestamp against the strata: the layers and the timestamp agree to the decade and disagree to the day, and nothing breaks the tie. he keeps the audit letter under the sticker on the lamppost. the sticker is the filing system.
