The Hyperstition Corpus and the show: a bridge (2026-10-20, ET)
Source: KB's Downloads, corpus_bundle/ (the engine and a 291-node genesis snapshot: 212 entities, 79 claims, 76 sources, 472 relations, an 840-row hash-chained ledger; the validator passes clean on a scratch copy) and Hyperstition Corpus.html (the current explorer: 612 graph nodes, 431 entities, 181 claims, 124 sources, 1,187 relations). The corpus's own labels and grades are used here as given; none of its claims were re-verified for this note.
What the corpus is
A working knowledge, social, network and market graph "for two artists studying hyperstition". Append-only JSONL (sources, entities, claims, relations) plus a hash-chained ledger; agents contribute by writing a patch to inbox/, and ingest.py validates the whole patch against a scratch copy and writes nothing if any rule fails. Four principles: loop, affect, authorship (optional in the art, mandatory in the ledger), hyperstition (veracity and force are independent). Two layers: a fiction layer (declared, never a living target, never a forged record) and a ledger layer (nothing deleted; a wrong record is superseded). Its scale tiers are S1 (a scene), S2 (a niche) and up.
The ladder, applied to the show
-1 (first order): references baked into the show, direct and indirect. The corpus holds 62 documented cases and ~95 operators (true-thread braiding, object to operation, price as proof, sale as performance, absent origin, synthetic persona, lore seeding). The show's conspiracy law (CRAFT-RULES: nothing confirmed, only patterned) is true-thread braiding with a declared wrapper. Direct: a quotation the audience can place. Indirect: the same operator on a different instrument. The episode-to-case map is on each episode node (corpus_refs; Ep1 at top level, Ep2-12 inside seed).
0 (second order): the narrative and the theme. Run the -1 references on the show's own cases and the liminal appears: the wrapper question. A declared frame lets a claim circulate as meaning; the corpus finds the wrapper held for Sun Ra, Gillespie's campaign, Hustler v. Falwell, Botto and Drexciya, and failed for the Alex Jones judgment. The show is a declared wrapper, and its poles (the matrix, style:matrix) are the documented outcomes at the two ends.
+1 (third order): the system generates our own. The corpus's own +1 yields subjects with a constraint, a test and a scale: charter first; commit then reveal; watch the frame; attest the process on day zero; anchor the claim outside your own record; release in two layers. Merit (process attestation, Bitcoin anchoring), the register, the label rail and the fiction/ledger split already do several of them.
Baked-reference candidates (direct and indirect; KB's call)
Direct, periphery only (CRAFT-RULES 77): a line on the Gice lobby wall, lowercase: "it is easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of gice ." The sentence (usually attributed to Jameson or Zizek, and made famous by Mark Fisher's Capitalist Realism) is cited from memory, not checked here; the show alters it, as the corpus's rules want.
Indirect: the Board's agenda carries "the end of gice . out of scope ." as a struck-through line; Cardboard's four-minute stare (Ep2) is at that wall.
Indirect: Ep9 estate and Ep11 bank take their instruments from Bolden's lost cylinder, Wu-Tang's one copy and Beeple's B.20; nothing is named on screen.
The architecture
Two parts, kept apart. The engine (build/, schema/vocab.json, the ledger and the patch/ingest rule) has nothing to do with any node; it is a boilerplate. An instance is data in that schema. Instance A is the Hyperstition Corpus (documented real cases). Instance B would be the Jazz Cigarettes / Department of Jazz corpus: personas (Jazz Cigarettes, Gice), works (the trailer, the episodes), the show's operators, the Telegram ledger and the meme-vibes register (which already uses graded rows and literal/metaphor tags) as claims. The link is a thin bridge of relations that already exist in the vocabulary (evokes, exemplifies, applies, tested_at, targets): a show scene evokes a case; a designed claim tested_at a case. Updating either instance updates the other's view without merging them. The show's story graph, the register and the candidates lane are the same pattern (append-only, hash-chained, candidates gated).
Limits and open
The bundle in Downloads is the older 291-node snapshot; the 612-node data is in the HTML. To work at 612 the current JSONL and ledger are needed (the bundle's export.py regenerates the zip).
The corpus's three designed fiction candidates (an alt-history war on jazz, the misremembered standard, the third chorus) are unreleased and gated by its release test (a cold reader knows it is fiction; no living target; no forged record).
All real-person cases stay composites in the show; real brands stay off screen.
Instance B, built (same day)
The engine run on this show's own material, KB-only at internal/corpus-jc/ (rebuildable from the repo by seed/seed_jc.py; not in git). 196 entities, 32 claims (29 designed fiction, 3 analysis), 306 relations, 21 sources, a 555-row hash-chained ledger; the validator passes (0 errors, 25 warnings). Each entity carries a frame state: 63 at -1 (the canon: 24 personas, 15 texts, 8 site products...), 119 at 0 (81 craft rules, 14 operators, 12 concepts...), 14 at +1 (the trailer, the 12 episodes, the Ep1 cut).
What the three levels look like as data:
The second order is a closed body of law. 113 of the 119 second-order nodes touch only other second-order nodes (the rules and the metagrammar); only 6 touch the canon and 20 touch an episode. The hinge nodes (highest betweenness) are the craft-rules document, the metagrammar, rule 1 and Episode 1.
Most of the law is not yet applied. Episode 1's plan cites 16 of the 81 rules and 3 of the 14 operators (O3 recursion, O4 the mirror trade, O14 see above / see below). The other 65 rules and 11 operators are candidates for the next Pendulum round and for Ep2-12.
The engine's own work queue says the same thing from the other side: all 14 show operators have no documented case. Instance A supplies candidates: 11 of 14 now have one (hypothesis links in bridge/bridge.jsonl). The three with no real-world analog are O7 density, O10 earnest CG and O11 the quest inverted; they are the show's own.
-1 reaches +1 directly. 25 of the 63 first-order nodes touch an episode; only 8 touch the second order. The method (0) sits between the canon and the episodes in the prose and is only lightly wired in the graph.
The wiring pass (rules and operators to the documents that hold them and to the scenes that cite them; the cast to the episodes that name them) took the isolated nodes from 110 to 20.
Open for the next pass: wire the uncited rules and operators through a Pendulum round 3; connect the remaining isolated nodes (Focus, Mr. Atrium, Mr. Ortiz, five site products, the essays); read the six /texts on the site and the JC lore into claims; replace the explorer-derived id list for instance A with its data files.
After Pendulum round 3
Rebuilt from the repo (23 sources, 202 entities, 33 claims, 355 relations; validator clean): rules named in an episode rose from 16 to 41 of 81, operators exemplified by an episode from 3 to 8 of 14, and second-order nodes touching an episode from 20 to 57. The five complete-internet lenses (hypertext, interest, typed ontology, content graph, discovery) are concepts in instance B, each carried by the episodes that show it. The bridge now checks against the full 612-node snapshot of instance A (55 links, none missing). See research/archive/2026-10-20-pendulum-round-3-report.md.
